Huge Shiplap TV, Fireplace and Mantel Wall
For this job we added a mitered shiplap bump out wall in the living room.
First we had to measure the right width, far enough from the stairs but wide enough for the TV and fireplaces.
Once we had the right lines we cut the drywall, crown and baseboard out and framed our bump out wall off the already in wall framing.
We then ran electric in the new wall for the TV and the fireplaces. The TV electric would be on the face of the shiplap wall behind the TV and fireplace, which was a recessed installation, would be in the wall behind the fireplace.
We then drywalled the new framing as a solid backer for the shiplap. Once finished we installed the shiplap, making sure to leave space for the fireplace.
Then we installed a 1×5 on each side of the new wall and the same crown seamless from where we cut it out on each side.
Next we painted it all, and hung the TV and installed the fireplace.
Lastly we bought a 4×4 poplar post and installed it as a the mantel using 3 structural screws in the newly framed studs and plugged the holes with poplar plugs before staining the mantel.
